The HR Technology Scorecard

A study by Josh Bersin Co. found that 42% of respondents rated their HR technology implementations as having failed or not having been fully successful two years after installation.

While the software vendors and implementation partners often bear much of the blame for these failures, when you trace the issues back to the decisions that led to failure, you’ll see that many are made long before the implementation starts and, often, even before the vendor has been chosen.

Analysis of the root causes of HR Technology project failures shows that the problems fall into three categoires:

  • Wrong Software

  • Botched Implementation

  • Wrong Problem

Buyer’s remorse is high. According to a PWC study, more than a third of HR technology buyers say they are ‘somewhat likely’ or ‘very likely’ to switch vendors at the end of the subscription term.

Solving the Wrong Problem

Poor change management, integration challenges, bad data, inexperienced resources and numerous other reasons lead to projects that frequently run over time and budget and result in poor adoption and lower than expected benefits.

Not aligning to strategy, properly considering stakeholders needs, missing the opportunity to radically improve the way things are done are unfortunately all too common. These are all factors determined before the implementation starts.

To improve your chances of success it's vital to get your HR technology project off to the best possible start.

Phase 0

Phase 0 is the most critical phase of any HR Technology project- whether part of a more extensive HR Transformation or a technology replacement.

It's where strategy, planning and software selection occur long before any implementation consultants arrive.
